APT Staff Familiarisation Runs

FOR ALL STAFF INTENDING TO TRAVEL ON THE APT FAMILIARISATION RUNS

  1. You have been invited to experience APT travel prior to public service introduction on 6 October 1980 so that Operating, Commercial and Travellers Fare staff can gain practical experience of running the train. You will be able to sample the product from sales and working points of view and answer a questionnaire.
  2. A member of the HQ Commissioning and Regional Project APT Teams will accompany the train to co-ordinate arrangements and to answer any questions you may have on the APT.
  3. Breakfast will be provided free of charge on the morning journey from Glasgow Central to Preston and Dinner similarly free of charge, on the evening run from Preston to Glasgow Central. During other times, a Buffet service (exclusive of alcohol) will be available at the normal Travellers Fare price. However, your attention is drawn to the fact that in no circumstances may alcohol be brought on to the train. The APT Commissioning Engineer is empowered to remove any member of staff found to be consuming alcoholic drink on the train.
  4. The APT journey will be in the following times (subject to confirmation) and it will be up to you to arrange with your Head of Department as to which journey you travel on:-
  5. JOURNEY 1 JOURNEY 2
    Glasgow Central dep 08 03 -

Brake Tests will take place on the journey, and you will be advised on the train when these are to take place.

It is your responsibility to ensure you make appropriate travel arrangements to get to and from Glasgow Central, or Motherwell, or Lockerbie. A free or duty pass for the journey from your home station to Preston and return will be issued by your own department. It is also necessary for you to bring your PT Identity Card along for inspection purposes.

  6. To join the train it will be necessary to obtain an A.P.T. Boarding Card (which will indicate a specific coach in which you are asked to remain initially), and this can be obtained from either the special A.P.T. Kiosk at the barriers of platform 1/2 Glasgow Central or the Travel Centre at Motherwell on production of this circular.
  7. The Boarding Card for the outward journey must also be used for the Northbound run from Preston.
  8. You will be given the opportunity to sample both first and second class accommodation on the APT during the trip. However, the Driving Cab, Power Car and the Guard's Compartment are out of bounds.
  9. As this invitation to travel is voluntary, and as either Breakfast or Dinner will be provided free of charge according to which journey you make, no expenses or overtime claims will normally be accepted for this trip.
  10. If it is necessary to cancel the trip, your own Department will advise you accordingly.

The APT Commissioning and Project Teams from Derby and the Scottish Region hope you will enjoy the journey.
