Transmission System

To reduce the impact and wear on the track, the four ASEA LJMA 410F electric traction motors are mounted inside the body of the power car with cardan shafts driving lightweight gear-boxes to complete the final drive to each axle.

The ASEA motors are force ventilated, six pole, fully compensated, separately excited direct current traction machines.

The armatures are connected in an all parallel arrangement, each under the control of two thyristor converter. The fields are also in parallel but separately excited.
